Monte White has been shoeing for me since 1997. At the time, I had a mid
level Dressage horse with a difficult club foot. We had many discussions on
the best way to shoe the horse that resulted in the beginning of a wonderful
partnership. That horse went on to win CDI-W***’s at the Grand Prix and
eventually to help a Jr Rider to the Gold Medal in the Cosequin National
What I love the most about Monte can best be described with some of our
interactions. One day, when my vet was doing x-rays on a Fourth Level horse,
Monte walks in and asks Dr Latimer, so what do you think about that crooked
hind foot? I think it should have some x-rays. ‘It’s funky’. Dr Latimer and
I both think the foot looks fabulous, the horse is sound, flexes clean, has
no signs of resistance or problems with the leg, but we trust Monte and take
a few views of it. The ‘funkyness’ was correctly balanced medial laterally.
However both hind feet had a slight negative rotation of the coffin bone. A
horse that already seemed a bit high behind actually needed his angles
raised. Go figure? Thank you Monte! This horse is currently doing well at
Prix st. Georges and schools all the Grand Prix.
Another great example of why I love Monte, is how he spent most of a day,
unscheduled, trimming an Insulin Resistant horse who had foundered.
He and the vet worked hand and hand to treat a very very difficult case.
Monte is always open to working with the vets. He always wants feed back
from me about how a horse is working and wants to know if there is anything
he can do to improve the horse.
Another professional that I hope never leaves the business. I am not sure
what I would do with my horses if he were to retire.
